About Arnold’s English

Hi, I'm Arnold Strachan, an English educator specializing in academic writing, IELTS preparation, and professional English communication. My journey into education was not traditional. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a marine engineer, where clear communication and technical precision were essential. That experience shaped the way I approach language learning today: English is not only about vocabulary and grammar—it is about communicating ideas clearly and confidently.

Over time, I developed a passion for helping others improve their English and began working with students and professionals around the world. Since then, I have accumulated more than 5,000 hours of online coaching experience, helping learners improve their pronunciation, sentence structure, fluency, and overall confidence when communicating in English.

Helping Students Achieve Real Goals

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, each with different goals. Some students needed to improve their English in order to deliver presentations at work or communicate confidently in international business environments. Others were preparing for important examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL, or professional certification exams like the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) qualification in Hong Kong.

Many of these students started with limited confidence in their English ability. Through structured coaching and consistent practice, they were able to develop stronger communication skills and successfully achieve their goals.Seeing students progress from uncertainty to confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work as an educator.

My Approach to Teaching English

One thing I noticed early in my teaching experience is that many students struggle not because their English is poor, but because they lack a clear structure for expressing their ideas.This is especially true when it comes to academic writing and essay development.For this reason, my teaching focuses heavily on structured thinking and clear communication frameworks. Instead of memorizing complex vocabulary, students learn systems that help them organize their ideas logically and communicate them effectively.

Some of the frameworks I teach include:

• Thesis-driven essay structure
• TEAL paragraph development (Topic, Evidence, Analysis, Link)
• Clear argument development and critical thinking
• Conclusion frameworks such as What – So What – Now What

These systems help students produce writing that is clear, organized, and persuasive.

My Current Work

Today I work as a high school English teacher, where I teach students how to analyze literature and write structured academic essays. In my classes, students learn how to:

• interpret literary texts
• develop strong arguments
• structure analytical essays
• support their ideas with textual evidence
• communicate their thinking clearly through writing

Teaching literature alongside writing helps students develop critical thinking skills, which are essential for both academic success and effective communication.
